A Week Later

It's been a week since my last post and not much has happened since then unless you count having a 5 day holiday, something. :-)

We had Thanksgiving at my Aunt Rose's house. My son somewhere along the line decided that she should be called Nanny, so when I refer to "Nanny" I neither 1) become independently wealthy and suddenly can afford an au pair, nor 2) found a long lost grandmother - that would be a wonderful miracle.

Nanny loves entertaining. Everything I ever learned about entertaining I learned from her. I remember that she had wonderful parties for no reason in her house where the kids were to be seen and not heard, and we would sneak crackers off of the hors d'ouerves table when no adults were looking. As I got older, I was the only kid out of the four cousins and me who enjoyed helping her set up for parties. My favorite party being Fourth of July where we would make baskets out of watermelons and fill them with all sorts of summer fruits - most of which I am now unfortunately allergic. She had tons of shish kabob, hot dogs, hamburgers, and grilled chicken. Tables would be festively decorated with red, white and blue, and everyone had a grand ole time. (It didn't hurt that it was also my father's birthday.)

This year was no different as she insisted on having Thanksgiving at her house this year. We had turkey with all of the trimmings, and a beautifully set table - reminding me that this is her gift, her area of service - making people feel happy even when we would rather have gone out to eat at the Golden Corral.

What's your gift? What do you do to make this world a better place? Tell us about it, either here or on your own blog and link it back to here. We would love to hear about it.

Great post! My mother has always had the gift of entertaining, preparing delicious meals for her various club luncheons and church groups. Nothing like a party to prepare for to get her up out of her chair and decorating to beat the band. She still sends me more recipes than I will ever fix in a lifetime. What a gift for those that can entertain with such ease.
Have a great week getting back to the routine!

My mother-in-law and my husband have this gift, too. His mother hosts parties throughout the year, and she's 82! Her first Christmas party of the year will be this Saturday. She's already requested that my daughter dress nice... "tell her not to wear jeans." (Oh, my... I think a shopping trip must be scheduled. As jeans are now acceptable at church - even though I'm not thrilled with that - "nice" does not hang in her closet!). And of course, "nice" doesn't go with the Birkenstocks, Sperry, or Converse sneakers. So new shoes, too??

Love your Christmas header and the music!

If there is something I dearly miss about living in the other side of the world, it is the family partys, the grandparents or aunts houses, the spirit of union, which is so beautifully present in everything you write... :)

I will write a post to link it here, though I'm not sure at the moment I'm doing much about the generic world, apart from trying to educate Sarita to become a good person, that and oh, of course, recycling ...

But just wanted to let you know I'm writing some posts here, a couple are just copied and pasted from Vox, with some minor changes... but that way you dont need to travel that much into Vox :)
(anyway you are always welcome there and it is a great happiness for me to have you in Vox!!!)

We have been poorly, but will write privately soon.
Huggzzz to you all

My gift is definitely NOT cooking or entertaining.
I am pretty good at setting the table though!

I guess my gift is listening and not judging. Also my gardening skills are pretty good.

I am pleased to read you have a wonderful Aunt Rose (nanny) in your life.

I do love to make people laugh and to feed them--as a matter of fact, after reading Gary Chapman's book, 5 Love Languages, I told my husband that Dr. Chapman had missed two love languages--food and laughter!

Love the Christmas look!
Blessings!
