An Early Birthday Post and Some Other Things

Image
I usually love my birthday week. Doesn't everyone celebrate birthday weeks? This week though found me with just me and the kids. Every morning I had to be at work by 7 a.m. to stand and watch a relatively empty hallway at school. One morning, I couldn't find my i.d. card so I couldn't get through the gate on post. I had to drive home, dump my purse and run through my memory of when I used the card last....I last saw it on Election Day at the polls. Then I had to remember what raincoat I was wearing. This made me 10 minutes late for duty. My mother went out of town and of course, my husband doesn't live here anymore, so I made plans with a couple of friends to go to one of our favorite hangouts after school today. I also made arrangements to take my friend and her kids and my kids to the World Hunger Farm for their Farm Day. Unfortunately, plans have changed. My friend had to ground both boys because of some majorly severe actions that occurred at school, and I found out...

Just in Time

I usually do things just in time. It's the procrastinator in me. Been that way since 3rd or 4th grade, maybe even 2nd. Yesterday, I was the queen of procrastination and had to pay for it. My husband had this dresser(a found object): It had a nice shape, but it was definitely worse for wear. I had always had it in my mind that it should be painted. I asked him to move it to the back yard or garage (he suffers from procrastinationitis too) and he never did, until this week when I was busy with school and such. Saturday, I finally made it to the Home Depot, but when I got home I got distracted and forgot until Sunday. It was now or never since the movers were coming the next day. I had him drag it out on the driveway and I got to work. Sorry there is no after... It was still drying and now it is on a truck to...

That's What You Get

I hear that phrase in my house all the time passed from one child to the other and occasionally out of my own mouth. Tonight I am saying it to myself. Karma's a ..... a chameleon. What? What did you think I was going to say. I took James to his soccer game this evening and he was running around the field waiting for the game to start. The coach (I use that term loosely) finally wrangled up the kiddos at their bench and made them hold their hands in front of themselves until the ref said it was time to start. While most of the children were waiting patiently, the coach turned her head; at which time, I see this little boy pulling his arms in a circle over the heads of each of his teammates. (They are 4 and 5 & James stands head and shoulders above them all.) I think at this point I should mention that after having to babysit the bench warmers the first game and wrangle unruly children, I decided that it wasn't my place to mind other people's children and I would sit in m...
