So I Was Just Thinking

I didn't know what I was going to call this so you can name it what you want. Never have ever been more happy to see this screen: I did something silly the other day. Every time James and I would walk into the grocery store there would be a girl dressed up like a cowgirl in front of a large display of Toy Story 3 DVDs. The store was promoting the video with a giveaway of almost $15 worth of coupons when you buy the DVD. I don't usually go for those type of things so every time I passed the girl, I just said, "Sorry. No thank you." (Why do I feel I have to apologize to people who are trying to sell me things?) Anyway, James consistently would beg for me to buy the video, but I stayed firm until about a week later when I realized that the coupons that came with the video were all for things I normally buy for James' lunch like granola bars and Gatorade along with some tissues. With it being cold season, I figured it was as good a time as any to get those too. So...I...

(THIS WAS STARTED THIS MORNING...I RAN OUT OF WORDS AND AM FINISHING IT AT 9:16PM) Well, here I am, 6:21 in the a.m. on my day off. No rest for the weary. Today's activities will begin at 8 a.m. when my alarm goes off for real, and I have to get my kiddos up to get Caitlin to a private dance lesson to help her improve her solo. Things aren't going too well. Last year she did a tap solo but was bent on doing a jazz solo this year. I knew it wasn't the right choice, but she couldn't be swayed and decided to let her learn her lesson the hard way. In the beginning, I thought, "Wow, she just might do this!" However, she hasn't grabbed onto certain difficult parts of the routine that her choreographer has created for her, and we haven't had a moment to get together since learning the entire routine back in November. My parents loved the family road trip. Since my father was in the military, he would have 30 days off a year for vacation. He always waited until summer to use them. The trips always started with Dad getting out the old Rand McNally, a Best Western Guide and a pad of paper. (These were the days before Mapquest.) He would then map out our route correlating travel times with Best Western Motel locations. Dad knew he would be doing most of the driving while mom read the map, and my brother and I sat in the back of the metallic blue Chevy Impala station wagon continually saying, "I'm not touching yoouuuuuu." It's a wonder dad never pulled the car over. Lunches at roadside parks consisted of foods that would survive long times out of the refrigerator. Mom found something called "deviled ham" and another product known as "Cheez Whiz." She would use these together to fashion a ham and cheese sandwich with mustard on the white bread that stuck to the roof ...

Don't you hate that...You are watching your favorite television competition show - Deal or No Deal, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars ....The list is almost infinite. You wait patiently through the inane "judges" comments, and just when you think you are going to get your reward, you hear that dreaded statement, "Next you'll find out the winner, right after a message from our sponsor." I know some of you have been patiently waiting to hear about the winner of my one and only RAK drawing. Well, be assured there won't be any commercial messages here, but there were other things that prevented me from having my drawing in a timely manner. The most significant of these was the power outage my house experienced due to a certain male individual's inability to remember to pay TXU on time. Okay, so when I started this blog, it certainly was NOT to post scrapbooking challenge responses, but it seems that's exactly what is has turned into. So today I am returning to my rambling roots of sharing what is on my mind. This morning I got up early because we are supposed to go to a Summer Festival in Lampasas called Spring Ho . (I always giggle at that name.) Really, it's a real festival celebrating the natural spring that feeds a pool there that you can actually go swimming in. The town is not a big town, but it isn't one of those "blink and you'll miss it" towns either. I got up to see what time the festivities will begin today and found out I could have slept another 2 or 3 hours, but now I am up so I will subject you to some random thoughts. I wonder what the strangest festival name is out there. Our town has a celebration called Rabbit Fest - a Chamber of Commerce celebration designed to encourage people to come to our little town. I didn't take before photos because  I never thought this place could better, but it has. When I moved in, there were so many boxes. My friends teased me about how many boxes I had labeled "glassware." Come to find out, the movers don't distinguish between glassware, pyrex, LeCruset, ceramics, or china so I had to open each box and decide if it would be unloaded or put in the laundry room. Unfortunately, by the time I had reached certain boxes, my strong arms had left and I couldn't push them into the laundry room because the washer was now in the way. Sooooo, they sat in the middle of my kitchen...until yesterday when the strong arms returned to help. My kitchen is finally wide open and it is very big. We also managed to get the remaining mini blinds hung, and found a way to hook up the ancient tv to the wii, dvd/vcr and cable box all at one time. (My cable guy was no help. Thanks Time Warner Cable.) Having an open kitchen makes me want to use it more so here...
