Attention All Produce Managers

Attention all produce managers:

If you see this man enter your department, please send him away. Tell him his wife said, "Go home."

Why do I send out this fervent plea? To answer this question, please examine exhibit #1.

My husband has the best of intentions. He wants to eat healthy, and I can tell when he is trying to kick junk food, because the grocery bags are full of produce. I don't know how many times I have explained to him that no matter how many bananas (or apples, or grapes, or watermelons) that you buy. They are not healthy if you don't eat them. I don't know how many banana breads I have had to make over the years because of overripe bananas. He also buys watermelons and cantaloupes which - due to severe allergies - I cannot even touch. I remind him daily, "Please cut up that melon, today!" Unfortunately, it never happens. Then I am left with the unpleasant task of throwing it away.

So to prevent the senseless demise of future bananas and melons please turn him away from your department. My sanity depends upon it.

Cool License Plate

I was driving down the highway when I saw a cool license plate. Now to most people it wouldn't me too amazing, but I have a friend from Scrapblog who lives in Florida whose son is in the Air Force. He just returned from Afghanistan. She made a wonderful scrapblog for him

Anyway, I saw this license plate from Florida and immediately thought of her. It is not a very good picture since I was driving (don't try this at home) and I was using a camera phone. The picture of her son is done from a print screen so it also a poor image, but I needed the picture.

In case you can't decipher the plate, it says AMR HERO.

So to all those American Heroes out there, thanks for helping keep the world a safer place.

To My Brother the Lumberjack

My brother recently attended a lumberjack competition which is appropriate since is a former Stephen F Austin University Lumberjack. It looked like they had a great time.

In honor of this ultimate in manly activities, I would like to post this YouTube video.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Part of a Good Breakfast??

I just saw an article on Asylum about the craziest breakfast cereals ever. Of all of the cereals listed, I only recognized two -- Fruit Brute and Freakies, thanks to my mother. When I was a kid, I remember watching commercials during Saturday morning cartoons and wishing my mother bought sugary cereals. Unfortunately, she was of the school of thought that a teaspoon of sugar sprinkled on top of corn flakes was the same as frosted flakes.

Fortunately, my Aunt Rose went to another school. Her cereal cupboard was full of every kids' cereal you could imagine. (Yes, she had an entire cupboard devoted to cereal). Not once, however, did any of the cereals listed in that article ever grace the sacred cereal cupboard. We did get to indulge in the aforementioned Frosted Flakes as well as Froot Loops, Sugar Corn Pops (now known as just Corn Pops,) Sugar Smacks (now known as Honey Smacks,) Count Chocula, BooBerry, Cap'n Crunch, the list goes on. Right now my brother, the cereal aficionado is thinking, "Man, where was this cupboard, and why didn't I get to explore it?)

The funny thing about cereal commercials was the tag line you would always hear, "...as part of a nutritious breakfast," and they always showed the kid eating not only the cereal but also, a GLASS of milk, a glass of juice, and piece of toast with a big hunk of butter. You would definitely not be suffering from low blood sugar after that breakfast. Tell me what kid had time to eat all of that stuff anyway before the bus rolled away from the bus stop without him, and his mom had to quickly get dressed and throw him in the car to get him to school on time. Well, I certainly wasn't that kid. By the time I was in Junior High, I was doing good to gulp down a glass of Carnation Instant Breakfast. This is not to say that my mother didn't try. She would have made me any healthy thing I wanted for breakfast if I got up on time. But that was the key, and I could rarely do it.

Now, I find myself as a working mother of two in the time of drive-thrus and school breakfast, and find myself thinking, "Maybe a bowl of Freakies isn't that bad after all."

Bloomin' Fest

A good time was had by all at the Lampasas Bloomin' Fest. Well, maybe not by all. Poor #2 I know he is looking forward to the day when he doesn't get dragged around to all of these "girly" things. I am sure he also wishes he was old enough to do things #1 gets to do like climb the rock wall. Instead, he is confined to the stroller, which he is close to outgrowing. He wouldn't be if he wasn't a runner.

I must say, however, he is a good sport. Not once did he complain when went from booth to booth admiring the flowers and jewelry. He waited patiently until we got to the concession area where he got his long awaited hot dog and Cheetos.

Take a look at the slide show from Scrapblog. Imagine it from a three-year-old's point of view.
